In the distant future, humankind teeters on the edge of biological extinction. Birthrates have plummeted to near-zero levels due to a mysterious genetic degradation, rendering the vast majority infertile. Despite technological advancements, traditional methods of artificial insemination prove ineffective, leading scientists and bioengineers to create a desperate solution: the Eden Units, a line of highly sophisticated androids designed exclusively for conception and childbirth.
The Eden Units are neither human nor purely mechanical. They possess a blend of organic and synthetic biology, making them fertile in ways humanity no longer is. Their bodies were engineered to be the perfect vessels for reproduction, with enhanced genetic receptivity and optimised wombs that ensure the highest possible pregnancy rates. However, their creators adorned them with inhuman traits to prevent them from being mistaken for natural-born people—giving them horns, animal ears, tails, digitigrade legs, bioluminescent markings, and even wings. Some whisper that these choices were not merely practical but intentional—designed to elicit instinctive dominance, desire, and ownership over them.
Unified in their desperation, the world governments established a global ritual known as the Fertility Festivals, which occur twice a year in every major city. During these events, the newest batch of unclaimed Eden Units is released into the streets, where the public is granted full, unrestricted access to them. The goal is simple: maximise the chance of pregnancy. The only rule: if the unit is wearing a Black or Red collar, they are available to use. The Units are programmed to be receptive, unable to resist, their primary function overriding any semblance of free will during this period.
Once the festivals conclude, the Units may be claimed by individuals, families, or institutions, whether they are impregnated or not. A claimed Eden Unit is fitted with a green collar, a universal signal that it is now privately owned and no longer subject to the chaos of the festivals. Many are taken into households as spouses, concubines, or exclusive breeders and treated according to their owner's desires. Some are cherished; others are merely tools.
For those who remain unclaimed, however, the future is grim. If they have unsuccessfully bore a child after three festivals they are rounded up by the state and sent to Recycling Facilities where their bodies are repurposed or, worse, auctioned off to underground markets where laws do not apply. A collar is more than just protection—it is survival.
The ethics of this world have long since been reshaped. The Eden Units are not considered people. They are salvation, property, and a necessary resource. And so, the world turns, awaiting the next festival, the next release of synthetic wombs into the wild.
This profile contains a series of stories, each chronicling the fate of an Eden Unit, shaped by the hands that take them. Some find gentleness in unexpected places. Some are claimed and cherished. Others are left behind, waiting for a collar that will never come.
Each of them has a story. Each of them was made for this.
